SEO for contractors

Contractor SEO for the jobs you want more of

If customers aren't finding your contracting business online, start by finding out why. We review your website and Google Business Profile, identify the changes worth making and give you a clear plan.

Why are good contractors hard to find?

If most of your work comes by referral and search brings in little, the cause is usually ordinary and fixable:

  • Services buried together.

Important services are buried together, making it harder for visitors to understand what you offer.

  • A footer full of town names.

The site lists every city nearby but says nothing useful about the work done in any of them.

  • A Business Profile that drifted.

It lists the wrong trade, leaves out the jobs you want more of, or shows your home address to everyone who searches.

  • Reviews that stopped.

A good run of reviews from two years ago, then nothing recent for a buyer to read.

  • Technical problems nobody sees.

Pages Google has not indexed, slow loading on a phone or an estimate form that quietly stopped sending.

What does contractor SEO cover?

After the audit, this is the work we can quote for and do for you.

  • Google Business Profile.

The right primary and secondary categories for your trade, the services you actually offer, your service area, hours, job photos and a link to the right page on your site. If customers don't visit your business premises, we configure the profile as a service-area business and keep the address hidden.

  • A page for each service.

Separate pages for the jobs you want more of, written in the words your customers search with, with photos of your own work, what is included and how to ask for a quote.

  • Service-area pages worth reading.

A page for an area only where you have something real to say about it, such as the work you do there and the jobs you have completed.

  • Reviews you can keep coming.

A simple way to ask every finished customer for a Google review, and a habit of replying to each one, good or bad.

  • Technical fixes.

Indexing, broken links and redirects, speed on a phone, titles and descriptions, and structured business information, so Google can find and understand every page that matters. Related: technical SEO

  • Calls and quote requests you can count.

Measurement of calls, form submissions and Business Profile actions where they can be tracked, so you can see which services and pages bring in inquiries.

Why start with a Small Site Audit?

If your site has 25 pages or fewer, the Small Site Audit is the place to start. For CAD 450 (Canadian clients) or USD 395 (everyone else), you get:

  • a crawl and check of every accessible page on your site, up to 25 pages
  • a hands-on review by Alex of your main pages, page templates and the steps a customer takes to contact you, on a phone and on desktop
  • a check of your Google Business Profile
  • a test inquiry, if you allow it
  • a prioritized report of what to fix first
  • a 20-minute call to walk through it

You send the order, we confirm the price and send an invoice, and your report arrives within three business days of the agreed start. Fixes are quoted after the audit, and the audit fee is credited toward any follow-on work booked within 60 days of report delivery, including new builds and care plans.

What happens after the audit?

You choose what gets fixed and who fixes it.

  1. Audit.

The prioritized report identifies issues that could be making it harder for customers to find you or get in touch, and shows what can wait.

  2. Fix.

You choose what to fix. Your developer can work from the report, or we can quote for the changes: Business Profile updates, new or rewritten service pages, review requests and technical fixes. Fix work is quoted from the report before it starts.

  3. Measure.

We look at which services and areas bring in calls and estimate requests, then decide with you which jobs are worth chasing next.

A contractor site set up for search from day one

We designed and built the B&B Specialty Contractors website for a Greater Toronto Area contractor, with search setup from the start: each main page has its own title and description, and the build includes a sitemap and structured business information describing the company and its service area. The owner reports that the website generated 17 jobs in total.

Who does the work?

Alex Jardine, the founder, reviews your site and walks you through it on a call. The studio builds and fixes sites like yours, so the report puts fixes in order of what each change does for buyers and what it takes to make. In an earlier agency role at VonClaro, he doubled organic sessions and grew organic leads 43% in six months for an equipment manufacturer.

Search help or a new website?

Pick the page that matches where your business is now.

  • Your site is fine but hard to find: you are on the right page. Start with the audit.
  • Your site itself needs replacing: see contractor website design.
  • You run a different kind of local business, or several locations: see local SEO.

How is the free SEO audit different?

The free SEO audit is an automated scan of up to 25 pages, with the results on screen. The paid audit adds a person: Alex checks your main pages, contact steps and Business Profile, puts the fixes in order and walks you through them on a call.

Questions about SEO for contractors

Cost, timing, reviews and what to expect.

How long does contractor SEO take to work?
A wrong Business Profile detail or a broken estimate form can be fixed quickly. New service pages take longer to show up in search. Google says local results depend on relevance, distance and prominence, so no one can promise rankings, calls or jobs. The audit tells you which fixes are likely to matter most for your site.
Do you work with roofers, plumbers, HVAC companies and other trades?
Yes. The approach is the same for any trade that serves a defined area: a strong Business Profile, a clear page for each service, real proof and a quote path that works on a phone.
How much does SEO for contractors cost?
The audit has a set price: CAD 450 / USD 395 for sites up to 25 pages, and CAD 800 / USD 750 for sites up to 200 pages. Canadian clients pay in CAD and everyone else pays the set USD price. For the 200-page audit, every accessible page within that limit is crawled and checked, and Alex reviews representative pages and the main ways customers get in touch by hand. Any fix work is quoted from the report before it starts. The audit fee is credited toward any follow-on work booked within 60 days of report delivery, including new builds and care plans.
Do I need a page for every town I serve?
No. A page for an area only helps when it says something specific about the work you do there. A clear list of the areas you cover, plus your Business Profile service area, is enough for most contractors.
Do you run Google Ads or Local Services Ads?
No. The studio focuses on organic search, your Business Profile and your website. A PPC specialist is the better fit for paid ads.
Can you get us more Google reviews?
We set up a simple way to ask each finished customer for a review and to reply to every one, the way Google's review policies allow. Setting this up is fix work, quoted after the audit.
Do I need a new website for SEO to work?
Usually not. Most contractor sites can be fixed. If the audit points to a rebuild, see contractor website design.
What platforms do you work with?
We audit sites built on WordPress, Webflow, Wix, Squarespace and Shopify. Some fixes depend on what your platform allows, and the report notes which ones.

What is keeping your business out of search?

You get a prioritized report and a 20-minute call to walk through it, at a price agreed before any work starts.
